INDEPENDENCE MISSOURI

DEPARTED: Winter Quarters Nebraska at 1 pm.
ARRIVED: Independence Missouri, 5 p.m.
VISITED: Liberty Jail.
After our visit in Winter Quarters we headed south into Missouri. We arrived at liberty Jail with enough day light left to have a family night tour of Joseph Smith's prison. Joseph and Emma were staying in Far West when he was arrested by anti mormon mobs. Joseph spent the winter in this Jail with some of his closest friends.

Joseph Smith spent nearly seven months in the bottom floor of this jail. The ceiling was so low that most of the prisoners could not stand. Joseph prayed often for the saints while he was in the jail. He received several answers to his prayer including a treatise on priesthood leadership . . .
Why is it that many are called but few are chosen? . . . Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world and aspire to the honors of men . . .

Despite the horrible conditions that Joseph and others experienced here at the jail--we could feel a marvelous spirit here--one of reverence, sacrifice, and sanctity. Long before he lost his life for what he believed--he was giving his life for what he believed.

VISITED: Adam Ondi Ahman

This hill overlooks the valley of On Di Ahman . . . when earth was once a Garden place and all her glories common.

Marinn and Korie imagine a life of adventure in the wild west! Independence was the last outpost in the states before entering the Wild Wild West!

This replica of the Golden Plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated demonstrates that the original plates weighed around 70 lbs
